Association Statement of Purpose
The Association for Comparative Economic Studies (ACES) is the leading scholarly organization for the support of comparative economic studies. Its world-wide membership includes academics, economists and political scientists employed by international agencies, governments and private firms and banks as well as policy makers. The purpose of the Association is to provide scholarly exchange among persons interested in comparative studies of economic systems, institutions, and economic performance and development and to further the growth of research and instruction on these topics.
The Association holds its annual meetings in conjunction with the Allied Social Sciences Associations and sponsors a full range of panels organized by its members.
ACES also sponsors and edits two well-known journals, Comparative Economic Studies, and The Journal of Comparative Economics. Members receive web access to these journals as well as the hard copy versions as part of their membership.

ACES Meetings in San Francisco, January 3-5, 2009
ACES' annual meetings will be held at the SF Hilton in conjunction with the ASSA meetings. For the ACES Program, click the Conferences tab above.
Registration as well as housing reservations are through the ASSA web site, http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AEA/Annual_Meeting/index.htm. Please note that the registration and housing process is different from past years(see below).
Favorable ASSA hotel rates are negotiated for people who register for the ASSA meetings. Starting this year, you first must register for the meetings to gain access to the negotiated hotel rates. Once registered, you will receive an identification number that is required to gain access to hotel reservations. If you register online, you will get an email confirmation within minutes; it will contain the registration ID number. If you register by fax, you will get an email confirmation within 3 days. If you register by mail, you will get an email confirmation within 2 weeks. If you do not receive a confirmation within these time frames, contact ASSA staff at

If you are a member of ACES, you should have received your ID and Password for this site. Once you log in as a member, you will have access to articles in Comparative Economic Studies through the member link on the Comparative Economic Studies page on this site. To access articles in the Journal of Comparative Economics, you must first establish an account with Elsevier, following the directions enlcosed with your Password and ID. To set up your account and to subsequently access JCE articles, you must follow the link on the Journal of Comparative Economics page on the ACES site to access Journal of Comparative Economics articles.
